Occupy weed street breaks new records!

This has been an amazing time for the new Occupy Weed St movement.  If you haven’t been following yet, this new movement has started in Washington sq to campaign for the full legalization of marijuana in the state of New York by meeting up, smoking weed in a public place and talking to people about the different aspects of the movement while doing recreational activities such as Capoiera, Yoga, meditation and more!

Earlier in October we were joined by journalists writing for MetroNYC and VICE who were interested in the movement and interviewed Harison and Lorna. Last Tuesday the articles came out and it quickly led to the biggest turnout yet!

I’m so glad they included our “Toke of the week” ceremony

The MetroNYC article probably brought out the most people, who were eager to smoke and practice capoiera:

After the Capoiera class we all gathered on the grass in a Sacred Circle for the weekly Toke (this weeks toke is to Richard Lynch/Angry Pacifist for his continuing activism and protest) and a few quick words. We had a discussion about safe activism and then we introduced ourselves. (“this is like the exact opposite of an AA meeting!”)

After this I was eager to lead a brief meditation. I did the Heart-Mind-Body meditation, and although people seemed a bit wrestles by the end I was told it was absolutely amazing. I am so pleased! Keeping the spiritual center in activism is very important and I’m happy to play the part in this amazing movement.
